Hello SPE Friends!

It's hard to believe it's already been a week since SPENOLA. I had a great time and enjoyed camaraderie and passion for education and sharing that are always present at SPE. I've just begun processing my photos from the trip, but I can go ahead and share some of my highlights from the trip -- in no particular order. NOMA's Sculpture Garden The Jerry Uelsmann lecture at NOMA Exploring the French Quarter Eating over a dozen different tasty things. Yum! I particularly enjoyed the very first panel I attended: Integrating Video into Still Photography Programs Chris Jordan's touching preview of his [...]

Old Window & Floor Lamp

My husband Karl removed this old window shortly after I took this shot. I'll be a little sad once the last of our old windows have been replaced as they do make interesting subject matter. This window was falling apart as you can see by the gap between the two sections. The trash can is full of loose insulation Karl pulled out of the attic floor. We're keeping most of it to reuse elsewhere. Floor Lamp, 2015 Another shot of our guest room -- my usual studio space. We were working on our living room and downstairs bath [...]

Just purchased my first view camera!

Just purchased a 4x5 Calumet Cambo view camera! Can't wait to get the rest of the supplies I need to create my own tintypes. I'm pretty sure I got a good deal as this set. It comes with a Caltar IIE Copal No. 1 210mm f/6.8 MC lens with both caps, and includes the following accessories: - 12 Riteway and 2 Lisco Regal II film holders, all clean - Bag bellows - Dark cloth - Focusing shade - Polaroid 545i instant film back - sturdy Viking carrying case w/combo [...]

Tintypes with Frank Hamrick

I'm in love with tintypes! I had such a great time at Frank Hamrick's tintype workshop today. It's been quite awhile since I was in a darkroom. I found it incredibly soothing and I enjoyed playing the part of chemist as we coated and developed plates. This was also my first time using a view camera and while it looked mighty intimidating it was actually quite simple and quite fun. Now to hunt down a view camera for myself and to start planning how to turn my basement into a darkroom.

Falling Apart

I got a few nice shots today. My exposures were a bit dark so I had to do a little compensating in camera raw, but I'm glad I was able to salvage these. I've been photographing my house a lot lately. I'd like to try to do something with all the images I've been taking over the years as we've worked to renovate the place. I might end up with several sets as some of my shots are documentary while others, like the ones in this entry, are a bit more artsy. I love the way the light and the [...]

Little Landscapes

Check out Little Landscapes, a collection of small organic sculptures made during a paper clay casting workshop with Mario Gallardo this past November. I am so in love with these little objects. I can't take much credit for the beautiful results as it was mostly luck and experimentation, but it was a super fun process I would love to try again.
