Grad School, Week 2: Digging In

Methodology Presentation, the Library, and Learning Object Brainstorming Art 625: Introduction to Design Research & Writing Methods Methodology Presentation Field trip to the Library I gave a 10-15 minute presentation on design research methodologies along with a handout aimed at undergrad students. This was my first really tough assignment which I had to give two days early due to a planned absence. My entire weekend (Friday-Monday) was consumed with reading, taking notes, and distilling information for this project and my homework for Art 640. My poor husband had to take care of everything around the house, including all our meals, and I had to [...]

Grad School Ain’t No Joke

Grad School, Day 2: It's only my second day of class and I am swamped with work. I spent six hours reading and researching last night and could of easily of spent another four plus hours continuing my research in order to feel prepared. It's been over five years since I was in undergrad so I'm feeling a bit rusty. I need to find a book or video course on essential things and terminology to review before attending grad school. Grad School, Day 1

Today was my first day of class. It was fun and informative and my fellow grad students and professors all seem pretty cool. I'm taking Design Research Readings & Seminar (Art 625) with Jamie Runnels, and Contemporary Media/Communication Studio (Art 640) with Seth Johnson. As the name implies, the first class is going to be super reading and research heavy. We have five books we'll be reading this semester. Thankfully I've already read several of them so the information will be a little easier to process -- so many big words! I have a feeling I'm going to love the [...]

Grad School Orientation

I was super excited to meet the professors and grad students I'll be working with at JSU today. There are a total of nine grad students, including myself, and four grad professors. I'm really excited about all the new talent I get to work with and learn from. Seth Johnson and Chad Anderson specialize in web and interactive media, Christian Dunn specializes in screen printing, and Jamie Runnells specializes in illustration and book arts. It's a really nice mix. We made introductions during orientation, discussed some general program information and expectations that included reminders such as: Be professional and set [...]
