Escape from Tox City

Escape from Tox City is an interactive commentary on toxic masculinity and bullying in online gaming inspired by my experiences as a female gamer in a stereotypically male realm. The goal of this project is to raise awareness about pockets of extreme unchecked toxic masculinity that exist in online gaming communities, especially League of Legends.  League of Legends is a highly competitive multiplayer game notorious for its toxic community. Played by millions each day, the overwhelming majority of its players are young men between the ages of 16 and 30. Online gamers are largely free of the repercussions that dissuade [...]

Alt. Process

Alt. Process This collection of work features images created through alternative photographic processes (non-silver gelatin) in the Alternative Processes in Photography class. JSU Student Art Gallery October 30th - December 3rd, 2019 I organized and helped install this art show in the JSU Student Art Gallery. This project was one of the requirements for my graduate Alt. Process class, and it was a really good experience. Collecting work for the exhibit was a bit of a challenge so the show ended up being mostly my work, but also included several pieces by Abigail Read, Morgan Worsham, and Evan Thomas. Work [...]

Calhoun County Community Arts Show

Calhoun County Community Art Show Hammond Gallery | Jacksonville State University August 27th - September 17th, 2019 Reception: August 27th, 5-7 PM   Artist Statement Cyanotypes get their name from the signature blue hue of the developed prints. This dreamy blue photographic process is achieved by coating a receptive surface with a mixture of ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide, and then exposing that surface to UV light. These two prints were created by hand coating cyanotype chemistry onto paper, carefully positioning subject matter on the coated surfaces, exposing each to light, and then developing the prints in water [...]

Hello, Fall 2019!

Whew! It's been a while since I posted here. I was planning on doing some major revamping this summer but picked up some work that kept me busy. I also spent three weeks studying abroad in South Korea, and only recently returned home. It was a fantastic experience. I was enrolled in Kookmin University's Short Term Summer Language & Culture program. I lived in a dormitory in northern Seoul with three other girls, made a ton of friends, and explored Seoul almost every day. A fellow graduate student and I also went on a weekend trip to the beautiful city [...]

Art Alumni Show, 2019

Art Alumni Show 2019 Hammond Gallery, Jacksonville State University May 20th - June 1st Closing Reception: June 1st, 4-6 PM This was my second year planning an art alumni reunion and show. It turned out great, but was bittersweet because of the recent passing of Dr. Karen Henricks. We had a Show & Tell from 2-4 PM, which included a short memorial for Dr. Henricks, and a gallery reception from 4-6 PM. I'd like to give a huge shout out to Morgan Worsham for all of her help putting this show together, and the Department of Art, and Alumni Relations [...]
