Lumen QR Cards

Designed some QR cards for Lumen to give out at a conference I'm presenting at in a few weeks. I'm still working on setting up my game company's website [Blackwater Buccaneers] and I wanted to include my artist site and contact details plus a few specific links for this community so I created a custom Linktree for Lumen. By keeping the design simple I'll be able to reuse these in any setting. If you'd like to specifically keep up with Lumen check out it's Linktree (which just so happens to link to my other Linktrees, lol) at Linktr.ee/LumenTheGame. Is it [...]

Lumen: A Game of Photographic Terminology (MFA Thesis Project)

Developed as part of my MFA thesis on game-based learning, Lumen is an educational card game developed with the classroom in mind. The responses to Lumen have been fantastic. I am currently working to perfect the project and hope to Kickstart it in late 2022. Contact me if you'd like to be added to an email list to be notified when the Kickstarter goes live. Project Statement Lumen is designed as a teaching tool for introductory photography students. The tabletop card game format introduces players to professional terminology useful in both critique and discussion, while also encouraging critical thinking, [...]

Lumen, My MFA Thesis Exhibition

My MFA thesis exhibition is a wrap! I was super nervous about my show but it turned out great and everyone I spoke with told me they enjoyed playing the game. It was great to see strangers playing together and having a good time. Thanks to the pandemic and COVID it's taken a long time to wrap up this project. There's definitely still room for improvement but I think this is a pretty great start. Visit this blog post to read more about my MFA exhibition and Lumen, the card game/teaching tool I created.

Golden Thorn Style Guide

Golden Thorn now has a style guide. I've been going through my work from the last few years and decided to make a style guide for this brand just for fun. Golden Thorn was created for an entrepreneurship assignment in a graduate design studio class. I designed several logo variations, stationery, a website, and an art booth setup. I originally planned on using the brand for my art sales but then decided it was too formal for me. I'm still really happy with how the logo and design of everything came out. I invested a lot of time in this [...]

Feather Flags & Yard Signs

Feather flags and yard signs for Jacksonville Christian Student Center. I was able to utilize one of my own dot patterns to work on the yard sign. I'm looking forward to seeing these around Jacksonville when I return to campus.   Welcome, Yard Sign. I made the dot pattern featured on the bottom in my Pattern Design class this past semester. Xanadu Roller Disco Collection

Pattern collection inspired by the movie Xanadu and the roller disco culture of the 1970s and 80s. This set most closely reminds me of my own days spent at the local roller rink. Motifs include skates, stars, streamers, disco balls, and rainbow waves. Teenage me would have totally rocked this jacket. Pattern Design | Spring 2020 | Jamie Runnells

The Xanadu Kitsch Collection: Patterns Inspired by ‘80s Roller Disco

This collection of wild and vibrant patterns was inspired by the fun and funky fashion of Xanadu and the bold, energetic aesthetic of 1980s roller disco culture. Drawing from the film’s retro-futuristic neon glow, flowing fabrics, and dynamic movement, I aimed to capture the spirit of an era where music, art, and fashion collided—embracing the carefree fun, confidence, and unapologetic charm of kitsch. Kitsch (noun): Art, design, or objects that are considered tacky, gaudy, or overly sentimental, yet often appreciated for their nostalgic, playful, or ironic charm. It is characterized by bold colors, exaggerated forms, and a lack of subtlety, [...]
