SPE Houston 20/20 Vision

Society for Photographic Education National Conference Houston, TX; March 4th-8th @ The Westin Galleria Another wonderful SPE conference surrounded by amazing people! It's been 10 years since I joined SPE and it remains one of my absolute favorite communities. This year I had the pleasure of sharing the experience with undergrad photography students Alden and Madison. It was Alden's first SPE conference and Madison's second SPE conference. We drove together from Alabama to Houston and stayed in an AirBnB together a few blocks from the conference hotel. Highlights Madison, Alden, and I received a travel award from SPESC Madison & [...]

Mural Concept for Kitty Stone Elementary

Kitty Stone Elementary was looking to create a more "welcoming, inspiring, inviting, colorful and kid-friendly" atmosphere by incorporating a mural into their entry hall. Students in my pattern design class created three patterns each and were then instructed to share their patterns with classmates so students could create mural designs featuring patterns from the class. Chemigrams: Beautiful Little Mysteries

Chemigrams are an experimental art form made by chemically manipulating light-sensitive paper. These were made using a variety of resists that include common kitchen and household items such as eggs, butter, jelly, cooking spray, sunscreen, dish soap, and tape. Women’s History Month Exhibition Graphics

Design of print and digital assets for a Women’s History Month Exhibition. Client: Houston Cole Library & JSU Department of Art This was a fun project to work on because it allowed me to experiment with color in a bold way that conveyed 'women' without representing just one ethnicity.   Social Media Graphic                     Poster Design Social Media Graphic

Geometric Pattern Collection

My first pattern collection! For this project, I was directed to create a series of circle, square, and line motifs. This provided a great opportunity to experiment with mark-making. I created marks both by hand and digitally with Procreate, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Ultimately my favorite marks were the ones I created by hand using paint, charcoal, and ink.
