This week was so packed full of fun art things in and outside school that I think it’s going to take me a day or two to recover before I can get back to work on some of my research projects. Thank goodness for long weekends!

Art 625: Design Readings & Research

Our reading discussion for this week revolved around Design Context. It was super tedious but interesting, especially the parts that discussed the context of culture — an area I am very interested in. Ever since visiting Japan last year I’ve been thinking about their design styles in contrast to ours, especially in regard to packaging for gifts. The Japanese have a large and complex gift etiquette. From what I have read and observed it’s more important that a gift look expensive/or of good quality than for it to actually be expensive so packaging and design are key factors in that. It’s something I would love to research and explore one day.
